Newer Drugs for Muscle cells Rejuvenation

A new promising drug has been developed and proven to increase in muscle size, strength and metabolic state by the researchers from Texas University Medical Branch.

Human (also same in animals) body loses the ability to repair and rebuild degenerating skeletal muscles with aging and it starts from around 35 Years resulting in decrease in the muscle mass, strength and functioning. It will increase the inactive living and dependency in elders. A protein in the muscle cells in the human body is responsible for the dysfunction the muscle cells in elders. They administrated the drug in smaller molecules to the injured mice to affect this muscle protein and to limit its function which decreases the muscle strength. This experiment and observation was carried out on mice with muscle injury and which was treated with a placebo at the initial stage and with the newly developed drug later to get the possible positive results towards increasing in the muscle strength.

New Invention to fight Cancer Metastasis

A new drug-free anti-platelet therapy which is reversible could lower the risk of clotting in blood and potentially prevent cancer metastasis. A study reported in Science Translational Medicine reveals that this therapeutic approach involves modification of human platelets to create "decoys" which are still capable of binding to some cells but will not mix-up or carry out the other regular platelet functions, including chemical signaling associated with the coagulation process.

Platelets play a crucial role in resisting the bleeding and help to protect against life-threatening bleeding. Even though the hyperactive platelets are able to contribute various disorders, including severe blood clots, heart disease and cancer, several anti-platelet drugs inhibits clotting and their effects are not easy to reverse the function, leaving patients in dangerous condition if they develop unexpected severe bleeding or are in need of an emergency surgical procedure.

Viagra to treat Heart Diseases through master Growth Regulator

mTOR, a protein receives signals from cell division process through internal sensors that measures nutrients and energy supply and directs the cell to take action. These molecular switch studies were applied on heart disorders like overworked heart (enlarging).  It is also have applications in diabetes, kidney and lung disease, cancer and autoimmune disorders.

The protein mTOR, stands for mechanistic target of rapamycin, is so important to normal cells yet also plays major roles in several diseases. It combines with other proteins to form a complex, the major one being known as mTORC1. Superiorly active mTORC1 is known to be bad for the heart and leads to damage and disease, and it is thought that having control over mTORC1 protein could effectively treat heart disease. Overworked hearts with too much active mTORC1 enlarge abnormally similar to body muscle that bulks up after carrying heavy weights.

There is another protein called Protein Kinase G, which protects heart tissue from damage and disease. The surprising discovery of scientists’ that is the protein kinase G blocked mTORC1, figured out the key regulator of mTORC1 called tuberin (dubbed TCS2 by researchers), which acts like an "antenna" for biochemical signals triggering or blocking cell growth, and regulating metabolism. Similar to many other proteins known to alter tuberin, Ranek found protein kinase G altered tuberin by adding phosphates to it, but in a previously unpredicted region that turned out to provide the sought after brake-like effect. Protein kinase G is also the target of drugs like sildenafil which is commonly known as Viagra.

FDA fires the companies for marketing the drugs of Alzheimer’s illegally

The FDA, is a superior agency established and run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices. The US food and Drug Administration posted almost 12 warning letters and some online advisory notices towards foreign and domestic companies which are handling these activities.

It was said that 17 companies were illegally marketing (selling) the drugs which used to treat Alzheimer’s disease which are not approved yet. Alzheimer's is a serious and complex disease and most challenging disease that has no cure, which is unfortunate. Any products making unproven drug claims could mislead consumers to believe that such therapies exist and keep them from accessing therapies. The companies were reported on selling the products on websites and social media platforms, have not been reviewed by the FDA and hence not proven safe and effective enough to treat the Alzheimer’s disease. They may be ineffective, unsafe and could prevent a person from seeking an appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Read more about the mutations of Cancer influences the Cell-receptors

New researches revealed how mutations in cancer cells influence the cell receptor taking lung and rectal cancers as referrals. The research done in two Sweden Medical institutes (Karolinska Institute and Uppsala University) in collaboration with UK and USA reported on group of G protein-coupled receptors called Class Frizzled (Class F).

These receptors on the cell membrane get activated by hormones/messenger molecules, which trigger a cascade of processes within. G protein-coupled receptors are one of the largest protein families in the human body and are already an established drug target for a wide range of diseases. An important subgroup of G protein-coupled receptors is the so-called Class F receptors, but to date they have not constituted a therapeutic target to any great extent.
